Pune: Thieves Disguised As Customers Steal Gold Worth Rs 19 Lakhs Stolen From Jewellery Shop

Yerawada, 9th May 2024: While a jewellery shop owner in Pune was showcasing his jewellery to what he believed were customers, they were colluding with each other. At that moment, they shoplifted gold jewellery worth more than Rs 19 lakhs from his shop without being noticed.
This incident occurred at Mahavir Jewellers in Yerawada on Wednesday (8th May), around 11 AM. Shop owner Rakesh Gopilal Jain, aged 44 and a resident of Yerawada, filed a complaint with the Yerawada Police Station, Pune police. The Yerawada Police have registered a case against six individuals whose names and addresses are not known.
According to police, the complainant opens his shop at 10:30 AM and closes it at 8:30 PM, conducting stock audits before closing. On 8th May, around 11:00 AM, the accused entered the shop and requested to see some jewellery. Jain showed them various pieces, but they expressed disinterest and left. Later that day, during his stock audit, Jain discovered a significant amount of jewellery missing. Reviewing the CCTV footage, he identified the same individuals who had visited earlier as the perpetrators, shoplifting his gold jewellery while he was distracted. Upon realizing this, Jain promptly reported the incident to the police. The stolen jewellery is valued at Rs. 19,18,350.
In response, the Yerawada Police have registered a case against the accused under IPC Sections 379 (theft) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention). Police Inspector Santosh Patil is leading the investigation into the matter.
